How PrivateLessons.com works

For students and parents

  1. Search. Type a subject and your city or ZIP code, and choose online or in-person lessons. You'll see teachers who fit what you're looking for.

  2. Read profiles. Each profile shows the same things in the same order: rates for each lesson length, where lessons happen, a weekly availability grid, the teacher's background and reviews from students who contacted them here.

  3. Send a message. Tell the teacher who the lessons are for, the level and your preferred times. Searching, messaging and contacting teachers are always free for students. You only need an account when you send your first message.

  4. Agree and meet. Settle the time, place and price with the teacher. You pay your teacher directly, by whatever method you both choose.

  5. Leave a review. After lessons start, tell others how it went. Only people who contacted a teacher through the site can review them.

Lessons with children

Accounts are for adults. Parents and guardians message teachers and stay in the loop, and teachers don't contact a child privately without the parent included. For children under 13, in-person lessons happen with a parent present or within sight and earshot, in a public place, or in an open area of the home. Never share a home address before you've met.

For teachers

Create a free profile in five short steps: what you teach, where, your rates, a photo and bio, and your availability. Publish when you're ready. Students write to you through your profile, and you reply from your inbox. You can update your profile as your teaching changes. See plans and prices on our teacher page.
