Here is a rare footage of the great violinist Jascha Heifetz at the piano, yes at the piano, accompanying his student in a Bach concerto in A minor.

This film clip is from the series of violin master classes Jascha Heifetz taught in 1962 at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

I can't imagine what it must have felt like to play for a living legend. It had to be both fear and joy all mixed into one.

The most fascinating thing about this video clip is seeing Jascha Heifetz sit down at the piano. Yes, this great violinist playing the piano is a rare treat.

His easy command of musical line, counterpoint, clear harmonic texture and gorgeous piano tone is something to admire for any professional musician and especially a collaborative pianist.
