Multi-faceted percussionist and educator Peter James Saleh has been studying performing music since 1987. He is a founding member and artistic director of the Exit 9 Percussion Group with whom he has performed hundreds of times. He has presented his solo recital program 'Mostly Multi' as well as master classes throughout Kaohsiung Taiwan and Seoul Korea. Other notable performances with and without Exit 9 include Princeton’s McCarter Theater The Juilliard School the Jeju International Brass Festival Seoul University Zimmerli and Montclair Art Museums NJPAC the George Street Playhouse Dallas' Bass Hall Laguardia School for the Performing Arts NYC's Town Hall the New York Musical Theater Festival the Ailey Citigroup Theater TMEA Western Washington University Drew University NJ's Count Basie and Two Rivers theaters NJMEA and Rutgers University in addition to many many NJ/NY/PA school districts. As an educator Saleh has placed private students into some of the percussion best programs in the country including the Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music founded and directed the Central Jersey Youth Percussion Ensemble (now RYPE) for six seasons guest-lectured at Rutgers University and the Juilliard pre-college and fellowed at the University of North Texas and has served as a teaching artist for the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Young Audiences of NJ. He teaches percussion on faculty for the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown NJ and maintains a fruitful talented private lesson studio with the current age range of students being 7-52 years old! Contributing to the next generation of musicians and their audiences and engendering a personal sense of pride enjoyment and accomplishment in one’s playing are the top priorities in his teaching approach. He is also on faculty for the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey (YOCJ) and the newly formed Mason Gross Extension Division the pre-college arts program at Rutgers University where he is director of the Rutgers Youth Percussion Ensemble (RYPE). A student in Peter's studio has the benefit of his well over 10000 hours of teaching experience in concert/orchestral drum set mallet and drumcorps styles. Peter's students in addition to being exemplary members of their school and community ensembles have been principle NJMEA All-state Band/Orchestra players three of the past four years (one of whom used this website to connect with Peter) participated in many music festivals and seminars and been accepted into a wide range of college music programs with artistic scholarships. Students in Saleh's studio also have the advantage of being able to prep specifically for their RYPE and YOCJ experiences so that they can expand their musical experience.
All lessons with Peter are based on the development of three areas. The EARS (critical listening ensemble playing time keeping pitch sound concepts) EYES (reading ability) and HANDS ('chops' sensitivity control) of the player are worked on in each lesson in some way shape or form.
