Jeremy Shilley has been active in the Northwest music scene since his youth. In addition to his extensive experience as a studio teacher he brings with him his very diverse background as a conductor, director, vocalist, and bagpiper.
Jeremy received his formal music education at Pacific Lutheran University, where he began pursuing a degree in music education and conducting. Midway through his studies, his academic focus shifted to vocal performance.
Jeremy has had the opportunity to study conducting under Kathryn Lehmann, Dr. Richard Nance, Dr. Edwin Powell, and has master classed with Dale Warland of the Dale Warland Singers.
Jeremy’s voice and bagpipe students are known for their own high achievements.
Jeremy has students performing with professional and semi-professional musical theatre companies and opera choruses around the country. Many of his students have gone on to professional music education and performance programs at a variety of respected Universities such as: New York University, University of Hawaii, Washington State University, Pacific Lutheran University and others.
His piping students have received awards from contests all around the United States and Canada. Jeremy has students performing and competing in pipe bands throughout the nation including: the Pierce County Firefighters Pipes and Drums, the Elliot Bay Pipe Band (Seattle, WA), the Tacoma Scots Pipe Band, the Seattle Fire Pipes and Drums, the Northwest Junior Pipe Band, the Silver Thistle Pipes and Drums (Austin, TX), the Houston Highlanders Pipe Band (Houston, TX), and the Macalester College Pipe Band (Saint Paul, MN).
Jeremy’s own performance career is active and diverse, singing roles with such companies as Tacoma Opera and Bellevue Opera, including Tacoma Opera's 2009 Young Artist Showcase. He also performed as a supplemental chorister for the Seattle Opera. He is one of a handful of grade 1 competitive bagpipe players in Washington State and an experienced professional pipe soloist. As a bagpipe soloist he has performed for several high profile events including several live television broadcasts. Jeremy is also the founder and piper for the Celtic rock band, Blackwood Crash.
As an ensemble director, Jeremy has conducted and directed for a variety of groups such as the Tacoma Norwegian Children’s Choir (2 years), The Northwest McGregor Pipe Band (4 years), The Peninsula Pipes & Drums (6 years), the Tahoma Voices Chorale (3 years), and the Sonoro Women’s Choir (7 years). Also starting in the summer of 2014 he will be the conductor for the newly founded, Sonoro Men’s Chorus.

The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), The Music Educators National Conference (MENC), The National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS), The British Columbia Pipe Band Association (BCPA) and the Washington Pipe Band Association (WPA)
