Jennifer Hsiung is a singer pianist and music teacher in Center City Philadelphia. She started in San Jose California studying voice and piano. There she taught both privately and at the South Bay School of Music Arts. Graduate studies brought her to New York City to study voice at the Mannes College of Music. There she also taught at the Riverside Music Studios. On completion of her graduate studies she came to Philadelphia to study at the Academy of Vocal Arts. Ms. Hsiung has an extensive repertoire ranging from Bach to Bright Sheng. Opera role highlights include Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte Tigrana in Puccini's Edgar Stephano in Gounod's Romeo et Juliette Zerlina in Don Giovanni the title role in La Navarraise Fricka in Das Rheingold Sonia in Lehar's Czarevitch and Olga in Eugene Onegin. Most recently she sang Suzuki in Madama Butterfly at the St. Barthelemy Music Festival. Concert highlights include Brahms' Alto Rhapsody Handel's Dixit Dominus Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass Bright Sheng's Two Poems from the Sung Dynasty with the composer conducting Handel's Messiah Mozart's Requiem Honegger's King David and Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde. She has the been recipient of many awards from sponsors such as the Henry and Maria Holt Scholarship Foundation San Jose Opera Guild Shoshana Foundation (which awards the Richard Gold Career Grant) Mario Lanza Scholarship Foundation Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation and the James P. Parkinson Foundation.
