A singer of tremendous versatility Janellen Farmer received her musical training at the world renowned Curtis Institute of Music. Under the tutelage of artist /mentors such as Boris Goldovsky Delia Rigal Mildred Miller Era Tognoli Rodney Nolan Shirley Callaway and most recently Candace Goetz her career has spanned the musical world from grand opera to jazz. She has sung under the batons of such esteemed conductors as Leonard Bernstein Ricardo Muti Raphael Fruhbeck de Burgos and Gian Carlo Menotti. A regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Young Artist Auditions she has sung operatic roles from Mozart to Verdi and has been heard in concert halls from coast to coast and abroad.
In 1999 Janellen appeared in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. Later that year she made her debut on the cabaret scene at the legendary Cabaret at Odette?s in New Hope Pennsylvania. She has since appeared four more times at Carnegie Hall written and appeared in ten Cabaret shows at Odette's and has collaborated with New Hope favorites Gene Cavanaugh and Jeff McDonnell in a variety of cabaret performances before sold-out has sung with a number of Philadelphia's esteemed jazz musicians and has performed with them in some of the most prestigious jazz venues such as The Four Seasons and The Ritz Carlton Hotels. Janellen also had the honor of singing in January of 2002 for the 9/11 recovery workers at Fresh Kills representing the people of New Jersey at the behest of their Attorney General.
Janellen has taught voice both privately and on the college level since 1988. She is currently a member of the voice faculty at DeSales University. Her students perform regularly in Philadelphia New York and beyond. She has also taken on the role of Music Director of St. Matthew?s United Methodist Church Valley her leadership St Matthew's is fast becoming an exciting new force for the arts in the Main Line area of Philadelphia sponsoring or hosting a variety of theater and music groups in both rehearsal and performance.
Janellen joyfully shares her life with husband Bill Vogan and their three children Sarah Ian and Ryan.
