Russian-born pianist Igor Shochetman has received international recognition as an outstanding pianist sensitive chamber musician and excellent teacher. His performances throughout the US Europe and the Middle East have included works with major symphony orchestras; solo performances at Carnegie and Merkin Recital Halls in New York City the Tanglewood Music Festival the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco and the Gindi Auditorium in Los Angeles; and several radio and television appearances. The performances have garnered praise from critics and audiences alike. Born in the Soviet Union Igor began studying piano at the age of four. For his performance debut at the age of seven he played a Haydn concerto with a symphony orchestra. As a student he won several national and international competitions. He holds a doctoral degree in piano performance from the Moscow Conservatory and a masters degree in piano from the Lvov Conservatory. After emigrating to the US Igor was the recipient of a Ford Foundation Scholarship and a grant from the Isaac Stern Foundation which funded his study with Nadia Reisenberg at Mannes College in New York City. Igor Shochetman was fortunate to study with some of the greatest pianists of our time Emil Gilels Nadia Reisenberg and Alexander Edelman. He strives to pass on the tradition of the Russian piano school through his patient and insightful teaching. Igor has taught at esteemed music institutions including the Juilliard School and New York University and during the past 15 years living in San Francisco he has been actively performing giving master classes and workshops for piano teachers and teaching privately. His students have praised his dedicated and inspiring teaching. Igor recently moved to Seattle and is accepting intermediate advanced and professional level students of all ages. Exceptionally talented students will receive scholarships.
